BOISE -- Police say a 27-year-old Boise man was anything but a Good Samaritan when he found a lost cell phone over the weekend.

Joshua G. Escoto remained jailed Tuesday on a felony extortion charge after police say he contacted the phone's owner and demanded money in exchange for the device.

Authorities say it all started late Sunday, when a woman reported to police that she'd lost her phone in downtown Boise and the man who had found it had contacted her, saying she had to pay him or he would sell the device. Boise police say they arrested Escoto after the woman arranged to meet him for the exchange.

The Spokesman-Review reports Escoto is also charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a license, a misdemeanor.
