BOISE -- Hundreds of Idaho students spent their weekend at the Statehouse learning how state government works.

It was allpart of 4-H's 25th annual Know Your Government gathering.

Students got to sit-in on a mock session to learn how laws are passed, as well as serve as legislators, judges and reporters during the event.

Clancy Johnston,a sophomore at New Plymouth, said whether he considers a career in politics or not, it's important for everyone to know how the government works.

I think it's an awesome opportunity, Johnston said. It's critically important for citizens to know how the government works so they can be a part of it because the power really does lay in the people.

The event will wrap upon President's Day with a breakfast with legislators and judges. Governor Otter will also be in attendance.
