MERIDIAN-- The Meridian School District is changing its name.
The district's board of trustees approved a decision Tuesday night, to legally change its name from Joint School District No. 2.
It will now be known as the West Ada School District.
Spokesman Eric Exline says the proposal comes after an effort to better represent the six cities now served by the district. He says most people refer to the area as the Meridian School District, but that doesn't reflect all schools and students.
The change will take place in the next few months.
Exline says there are only about four signs at the school district's headquarters that need to be changed. Meanwhile, the district will replace letterhead and other materials as needed.
People will also notice the name change on a new website set to debut in August.
