GARDEN CITY - 28-year-old Tyler Benedict was arrested in Garden City after police asked him to stop walking in the center of the street.

Officers say Benedict was walking down East 45th Street Friday evening when an officer asked him to stop. That's when Benedict became combative and refused to follow police orders. Additional officers were called to assist but Benedict remained combative. During the struggle, two Garden City Police officers used their Tasers to subdue him.

Police say because Benedict showed strong symptoms of being under the influence of drugs, paramedics were called to the scene. He was later transported to Saint Alphonsus where he became combative with medical staff and was tased again by police.

Officers discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in Benedict's belongings and arrested him for several offenses including possession of a controlled substance.
