BOISE - A Boise man who admitted strangling his wife to death last year has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Court records show that 63-year-old Bruce Macomb was sentenced in an Ada County courtroom Tuesday for a charge of voluntary manslaughter. He was originally charged with first-degree murder for the killing of 58-year-old Beba Macomb.

Prosecutors say that on Feb. 21, 2013, Bruce Macomb held his wife Beba to the ground, straddled her and strangled her until she lost consciousness. Police say that Bruce admitted he did not seek medical help for Beba and she died. He then tried to take his own life by cutting his neck and wrists.

A charge of failure to notify police of his wife s death was dropped as part of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Macomb must serve at least 10 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. The judge gave him credit for 404 days he has already served in jail.
