MIDDLETON -- Downhill skier Erik Fisher s Olympic experience four years ago left him with one goal, to make the team again, four years later.

Sunday afternoon that goal was achieved when he was officially named as a member of the 2014 US Olympic Ski Team.

The 28 year old Idahoan known as the Flying Fish has had a solid World Cup season and went into the final event before the Olympics ranked as the 4th best American. However, a disappointing 36th place in Kitzbuehel, Austria over the weekend left his place on the team in question.

At 2:30 Sunday, Fisher sent a text to friends and family that read simply, The Flying Fish is going to another Olympics!!!

Fisher's parents Dave and Shelly got word by that text, while in church Sunday morning.

I immediately burst into tears, said Shelly.

In a recent interview with KTVB Fisher was asked about making the team and what his mindset would be this time around, four years after a wrist injury and bad weather combined to stop him from making a single run in the Vancouver games.

Making the Olympics was great but I'm looking for medals, that s why I'm skiing, that s why I'm going to the Olympics so that s what I'm going to try to do. Said Fisher.

Still in Austria, the former Bogus Basin Mighty Might ski team member leaves for Russia early next week where he will meet up with his teammates who include Bode Miller, who is making his 5th Olympic trip, a U.S. Olympic record.

Mom, Shelly is traveling with another mother of one of Erik's Olympic teamates. She admits headlines about Russia's security has her worried.

We got an email from the boys and they said don't worry mom we are going to protect you, laughed Shelly.

It's a proud day for his parents and Dave said an even prouder day for Idaho.

We have a good representation going over and so there is probably a lot of excited parents, saidDave.

As happy as we are for him being an Olympic athelete what matters most to us is just the kind of person that he is and he is an amazing person, said Shelly.

Fisher will ski in both the downhill and super combined beginning February 9th in Sochi.
