HORSESHOE BEND -- Six people were hospitalized Saturday afternoon after two separate crashes on Highway 55.

Idaho State Police say a Meridian teen was headed southbound on Highway 55, near Horseshoe Bend, when she pulled her Nissan Xterra off to let her passenger drive.

According to ISP, the Xterra wasn't all the way out of the road, and a driver struck the car from behind, which then hit an 18-year-old Meridian man who was moving toward the driver's seat.

Meanwhile, another driver who slowed down as he passed the crash scene was rear-ended by another driver.

All six of those injured, including four people in the Xterra, were taken to the Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise. Their conditions have not been released.

The highway was closed for about three hours while crews worked to remove the wreckage.
