BOISE -- Police have arrested a Boise man on rape and attempted murder charges.
Ryan Wayne Kanady, 32, was booked into the Ada County Jail just before noon on Friday.
Kanady is charged with rape, attempted first-degree murder, and resisting or obstructing officers.
A Boise Police detective confirmed a criminal investigation at a home on S. Phillippi Street in Boise.
Police say they got a call from a woman around 8 a.m. Friday that a rape had just occurred at a Boise Bench home. When officers arrived on scene they found Kanady in the backyard. He refused to comply with officers' commands and was forcibly taken into custody.
The victim told detectives that during the early morning hours Kanady placed a pillow over her face, suffocating her. She lost consciousness during the attack. She eventually regained consciousness and locked herself in a bathroom, where she called 911.
The woman told police she and Kanady know each other well. She is now getting support assistance through the Boise Police Department Victim Services Unit.
