RUPERT, Idaho -- A southern Idaho man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in connection with a shooting death.
The Times-News reports that 25-year-old Michael Jared Thompson was sentenced in Minidoka County's 5th District Court on Monday. Judge Michael Crabtree said Thompson will be eligible for parole after serving five years.
Prosecutors said Thompson was driving three friends home from a bar in December 2011 when he held up a loaded pistol to quell an argument. That's when 21-year-old Michael K. Blair, who was in the backseat, put his hand over Thompson's on the gun and placed the barrel in his mouth. The gun discharged, killing Blair instantly.
