Runningback Doug Martin was selected with the 31st overall pick by the TampaBay Buccaneers in the 2012 NFLDraft. Martin - who becomes the highest running back drafted in Bronco history - teams up with Shea McClellin (drafted 19th overall by Chicago) to become Boise State's first duo selected in the first round of the same draft.
Projected Pick: Late first round-early second
Former Boise State running back Doug Martin excelled in his workouts leading up to the NFLdraft. At the Senior Bowl, scouts drooled over his versatility and agility.
While he didn't show elite speed (running a pretty average 4.55 40 at the NFLCombine), his other measurables were off the charts. At 5-9, 223-pounds, he did 28 reps at 225 on the bench press (tied for most amongst runnings backs) with a blistering 3-cone drill time on 6.79 seconds.
Martin has gone from being considered a third-down back to a three-down back at the next level over the last three months. Considering his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and contribute on special teams, most analyst have bumped Martin ahead of LaMichael James as the No. 2 rated running back in this draft class.
