BOISE -- A Boise man who prosecutors say posed as a teenager on social media sites pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to possession of child pornography.
Jacob Eldon Hobart, 26, is accused of targeting girls aged 13 to 19 on the site. Prosecutors say he exchanged explicit photos with a 14-year-old from Washington state. Investigators discovered the suspect had also sent explicit pictures to a middle school student in the Boise area.
That girl told Hobart she was 15, but investigators discovered she was actually 12.
A search of the suspect's computer revealed he had requested to be friends with dozens of teenage girls through the site. The social media site reported Hobart in December 2012 after learning from chat logs he was posing as a teenager.
Hobart is currently serving a 10-year sentence in the Idaho Department of Corrections for an unrelated case of sexual battery of a minor. He was arrested on that charge last May.
Hobart now faces up to a decade in federal prison on the child pornography charges.
The case was investigated by the Boise Police Department and the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
