A Thurston County judge has sentenced Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sgt. Duane Rader to ten years in prison for setting his wife on fire.
Rader was present during Tuesday's sentencing hearing as Judge Lisa Sutton delivered his sentence for the 2011 attack.
Heather Rader told police her husband had used lighter fluid to set her legs on fire. She also said he told her he had a bullet he was going to put in her head. According to court papers, she managed to call 911 and was transported to Madigan Hospital, where she was treated for second degree burns.
Duane Rader was arrested and jurors convicted him on a number of charges, including arson and assault. He was acquitted of an attempted murder charge.
Heather Rader told the judge Tuesday morning she will fear for her life when Duane Rader is released from prison.
