BOISE -- Prosecutors say an Eagle attorney sexually, physically, and emotionally abused his two children over several years. With those accusations, that attorney, Gregory Vietz, was arrested Monday and is now charged with two counts of felony injury to a child.
Court documents outline numerous instances when prosecutors say the attorney harmed his 15-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son.
On Monday, prosecutors filed the formal complaints against him. Among allegations, police accuse Vietz of inappropriately touching the girl, driving while intoxicated with both kids in the car, calling both children vulgar names, and engaging in lewd and sexual behavior in front of them.
The complaint also alleges Vietz put the children into a mental facility without justification and says he did that to keep them from making criminal allegations against him.
The documents allege the abuse started on or about October 19th, 2006. That's the date Vietz's wife, Connie Vietz, died from what collegues told KTVB were complications from a stroke. She was a well-known Ada County Deputy Prosecutor.
The Ada County Sheriff's Office removed the children from the home when the investigation began in November 2009. They have been living with a relative since then.
On Monday, Vietz posted $50,000 bond using a bail bonds company and was released. The judge ordered Vietz to wear a GPS monitoring device, not drink alcohol and have no contact with the victims.
KTVB checked with the Idaho State Bar about Vietz's record; they say he has no formal sanctions against him.
Vietz will be arraigned in court next Tuesday.
Calls to the prosecutor and Vietz were not returned Wednesday.
