EAGLE -- For several months, the City of Eagle has been working on plans for a new terrain park that would offer skiing, snowboard, tubing and sledding in the winter, and cable wake boarding in the summer.
The plans are in place, but the public still has questions. The city held a town hall meeting Saturday and more than 70 people came.
From the beginning, this project has been met with strong opinions on both sides. Dozens spent their Saturday afternoon at Eagle City Hall for a meeting on the eagle terrain park. Some people liked the idea, but have some reservations about the plan.
I'm for the park in a different location and that would be in Seaman's Gulch, said one man.
Cherise Simon lives near the terrain park's future location.
We have kids so we think it's kind of a neat idea for the kids to be able to use it, but we are concerned about the impact it will have on our house, said Simon.
She is worried about the traffic around her neighborhood, as well as the noise level.
Eagle has said traffic studies done by the Ada County Highway Department indicate there will be no major traffic issue, and the parks department believes traffic noise will be minimal.
Parks Director Mike Aho also said impact on wildlife will be minimal, and no foot or bike trails will be removed.
I just think traffic has been a nightmare we have lots of accidents at, we call it, 'dead man's curve,' said Connie Barton, who lives in the area. And it's been an unresolved issue, all these many years when they realigned Highway 55.
The City of Eagle hopes the terrain park will bring out families, kids, and teens. That's why Chris Housel supports the idea.
I feel strongly that kids and young people should have that opportunity to get out there, get that sunlight, get that exercise every day. We don't need to keep closing areas down, and we need to open more areas up keep that open, so I'm very excited about it, said Chris Housel.
Saturday's meeting was the fourth and final one based on the terrain park. Final decisions will be made at the next city council meeting.
