HAYDEN, Idaho -- A father and son survived a small plane crash in northern Idaho after the craft's engine quit working near the Coeur d'Alene Airport.

Officials say that 73-year-old Terry L. Holman of Spokane, Washington, and his 28-year-old son, Brian Holman, suffered only minor cuts and scrapes in the crash on Wednesday.

Kootenai County Sheriff's Lt. Stu Miller says Terry Holman was banking to land at the airport when the engine cut out.

He says the plane clipped the exhaust pipe of a road grader in a field before hitting the ground.

Miller says Terry Holman told him he'd been flying since 1960 and this was his first crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
