BOISE -- The men and women who put their lives on the line everyday in the Treasure Valley were honored Friday night for the things they do, off the clock.
Ada County Sheriff Gary Raney said the event is called Heroes among Heroes, andFriday was the first time it was held.
A select number of Ada County staff members gathered at a residence in the Boise foothills to mingle and be honored.
I am so proud of them and I hope that the community recognized that they really are good human beings, said Raney.
One member of the Ada County Sheriff's department was honored and remembered for a unique story.
One night last Christmas, he was on patrol in Kuna when a family's home caught fire. He recalled how they lost everything and he felt compelled to get the community to rally for the family.
Deputy Nick Shaffer told KTVB after raising food and money the family is now in a new home.
It was kind of a story that touched my heart so I wanted to do something to help them out, said Shaffer.
Their stories of those honored ranged from helping out with the Special Olympics in their own time, to one man who travels around the country playing his music inspiring others with his gift.
The event was sponsored by private community member, who wished to remain anonymous, because of that Sheriff Raney said the event doesn t cost taxpayers.
