NEZ PERCE, Idaho-- Authorities in north Idaho discovered a middle aged man making contact with a young teenager over the Internet.
The original investigation started at the end of January when a concerned parent contacted the Nez Perce County Sheriff s Office.
Later, investigators found that Chad A. Cole, 45, from Holly, Michigan, had been in contact with the 13-year-old minor, between July 2012 and January 2013. Cole had been sending sexually explicit photos of himself to the minor and received sexually explicit photos and other communications from the minor, according to investigators.
These sexually explicit photos were taken, received, and sent from a touch screen iPod. The iPods are usually used to listen to music or play games. These iPod devices can also be used to take pictures, receive pictures and get into chat rooms as long as the device has Wi-Fi capability, said authorities.
The Nez Perce County Sheriff s Office made contact with the Holly Police Department. Investigators there obtained a search warrant for Cole s home.
While being interviewed, Cole admitted to having inappropriate contact with at least 15 to 20 minors throughout the United States. Cole is being charged federally by the FBI. The charges are production of child pornography, knowing receipt of child pornography, knowing possession of child pornography, and transfer of obscene material to a minor.
Cole was previously convicted in July 2006 of a misdemeanor for furnishing obscenity to children. Cole had successfully completed probation in that case and was not required to register as a sex offender from the previous conviction.
