GEM COUNTY -- One person is dead after a three-vehicle accident on Highway 16 Thursday afternoon.
Idaho State Police say the the accident happened around 4:03 p.m. on Highway 16 just south of Old Freeze Out Road in Gem County.
Police say 45-year-old Michael Vahlberg of Emmett was driving his black 2002 Ford Pickup north on Highway 16. When Vahlberg attempted to turn onto Old Freeze Out Road, a white 1995 Nissan Pathfinder with four people traveling in the opposite direction collided with the truck. The impact from that accident caused the Pathfinder to hit a 1995 Chevy pickup that was sitting still on Old Freeze Out Road.
The Nissan Pathfinder was driven by 62-year-old Paul Hehir from Crane, Oregon and his passengers were 65-year-old James Page and 10-year-old Zane Parker both from Wilder. All three were transported by ambulance to Walter Knox Memorial Hospital in Emmett, where Page had died from his injuries. The fourth passenger in Hehir's vehicle was 67-year-old Dale Philips of Wilder. He was transported by Life Flight to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with unknown injuries.
Police say Vahlberg and Upton were not hurt in the crash.
Police also say that alcohol is not a factor and next of kin has been notified.
ISP is still investigating the crash with assistance from Gem County Sheriff's Office.
