CALDWELL -- A former Canyon County Prosecutor who owes the county about $288,000 stemming from a contract dispute has filed for bankruptcy.
According to the filing on Monday, John Bujak and his wife, Pepper Bujak, list assets valued at between $500,001 and $1 million, equivalent to their liabilities.
The Bujaks in the paperwork say they do not expect to have money to pay unsecured creditors. Canyon County, the Idaho State Tax Commission and the IRS are listed among the 22 creditors.
Bujak resigned Sept. 30 after serving just two years of his term. He stepped down after failing to resolve differences over his contract for handling misdemeanor cases for the city of Nampa.
Canyon County Clerk Bill Hurst tells the Idaho Press-Tribune that the county will take a financial hit but that it's still unclear what it will mean for the county's fiscal year 2010 budget.
