BOISE -- Ada County Sheriff s Office deputies arrested a Nampa man Tuesday who they say spent months sending sexual messages on Facebook to what he believed was a 13-year-old girl.

Instead, a sheriff s office spokesman said, 26-year-old Trey Michael Clontz was talking to a detective with Idaho Crimes Against Children Task Force. The investigation began in January, and Clontz asked the girl to meet up with him the very next month, according to spokesman Patrick Orr.

Deputies were poised to make an arrest then, but Clontz didn t show up at the agreed-upon meeting place, saying he had car trouble. Orr said the suspect continued to contact the girl online, and asked her to meet again on Tuesday. That s the day Orr says he drove from Nampa to Ada County to have sex with the teen.

But the suspect was worried about getting caught, Orr said, and texted the girl several times, asking her to change the meeting place, and telling her to walk so he could see if she was alone.

When the girl told Clontz she didn t want to walk anywhere else, he pulled into the parking lot of a health center along I-84. Orr says deputies arrested him there to keep him from going back to Nampa.

Clontz has been charged with felony enticement of a minor over the Internet. If convicted, he could spend up to 15 years in prison and be required to register as a sex offender.

Clontz remains in the Ada County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
