MERIDIAN -- Construction is already underway on the new Meridian Road Interchange on Interstate 84. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Tuesday.
Some of the guests on hand included the Honorable Dirk Kempthorne, Idaho Lt. Gov. Brad Little and Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd.
The ceremony formally kicks off the start of project. The community was invited to today's event since it will have such an impact on a key access point to Meridian.
We want to remind motorists that the speed limit on that stretch of I-84 is down to 55 miles per hour.
The Idaho Transportation Department says the $51 million project is scheduled to be finished in October 2015.
Most of the construction and lane restrictions will occur overnight.
