BOISE -- A special hockey game Sunday at CenturyLink Arena honored the memory of a talented young hockey player whose life was tragically cut short.
The Idaho Junior Steelheads hosted the Ogden Mustangs for the third annual Karl Seyb Memorial Game.
Karl Seyb was a 16-year-old junior at Boise High School when he was killed in a car accident in April 2011.
Karl was just one of those kids, said John Driscoll of the Idaho Junior Steelheads Association. He had the gift, and he could play between the pipes like some of the best goalies that have ever come out of Boise, Idaho.
Donations collected at Sunday's game go to a foundation that Karl's family set up in his memory. Each year, the foundation gives back to the Junior Steelheads in the form of a scholarship, making it possible for a deserving young player to be part of the team.
There's so much demand for kids nowadays for school, said Driscoll. Any time you can help out a kid, i think you're doing something great for the community as well as the family.
