SEATTLE -- Searchers are waiting for safer conditions to search for a man buried in an avalanche Saturday at Granite Mountain, near Snoqualmie Pass in the Cascades about 50 miles east of Seattle. But, they likely won t be able to go back up until Tuesday due to the avalanche danger.

Mitch Hungate, 60, and two friends were swept more than 1,200 feet down the mountain. The friends were not seriously injured. The search for the dentist from Kent had to be suspended Sunday.

Hungate s family is at the base of Granite Mountain, adamant that he should not be left alone.

The Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center says the avalanche danger in the Snoqualmie Pass area Monday is considerable above 4,000 feet and moderate below, with the danger slightly decreasing Monday night.
