BURLEY, Idaho -- Authorities say a 29-year-old southern Idaho man has been charged with first-degree murder after an autopsy found his wife was strangled to death.
Cassia County deputies were called Monday to a Burley house to investigate reports of a suspicious death and found the body of 25-year-old Joann Lyn Lara. Officers arrested her husband, Jose Antonio Lara, later that day.
He was charged Tuesday after an autopsy performed in Boise determined the death was a homicide and the wife had been strangled. Police say the couple's 4-year-old child was home at the time, while their 7-year-old was at school.
Both children have been placed in state custody.
Jose Lara remains held with bail set at $500,000. A preliminary hearing has been set for Jan. 20.
