POCATELLO -- A Fort Hall man was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison Monday after pleading guilty to possession of an unregistered firearm.
Police responding to a home on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation in May spotted 34-year-old Arriyon Meeks-Ortiz holding what looked like a small bat or club.
When officers told Meeks-Ortiz to leave the home, he threw the object into a bedroom. Police found a 12-gauge sawed-off shotgun with a barrel of less than 18 inches on the bed, and arrested the suspect.
Meeks-Ortiz later told investigators he d paid $100 for the shotgun, and kept it beneath his trailer.
The case was investigated by the FBI, Fort Hall Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
