NAMPA -- Dr. DavidPeterson has been named the newest superintendent for the Nampa School District.
The Nampa School District Board of Trustees unanimously voted to offer the job to Peterson Thursday, upon which he accepted the offer. The district is reportedly finalizing Peterson s contract.
His annual salary will be $140,000.
Peterson is the current superintendent of the North Mason School District in Belfair, Washington. He's also the former assistant superintendent of Oak Harbor School District in the same state.
According to the Nampa School District, Peterson brings 35 years of experience in education to the post, including years spent as a preschool teacher, principal, and central office administrator.
He joins a school district with a troubled financial history that includes two superintendents who have resigned in the past two years.
Back in November of 2012, the board hired Tom Michaelson as the interim superintendent after then-superintendent Gary Larson resigned amid a $5.3 million budget crisis. However, Michaelson only held the position for little more than six months.
Michaelson's post was then taken over by former Nampa High School Principal Pete Koehler, who vowed to only hold the position for a year.
Koelher is set to resign in June. Peterson will take over the job on July 1.
He'll be the fourth superintendent in the Nampa District since November 2012.
