BOISE -- More than 400 people walked at Ann Morrison Park to raise funds and awareness for pancreatic cancer, the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the United States.
The 5K event is called, 'Purple Stride,' and for many, it is a day meant to bring hope and inspiration for people who have been diagnosed, as well as support those fighting the battle with it.
Lynn Kemper came to Boise from Portland to walk. It's an awesome cause, she said. We've lost too many people to it. I know other folks who have lost to this cancer, so we need to keep fighting it. We need to know it, fight it, end it now.
Pancreatic cancer also has one of the lowest survival rates of all major cancers. 74-percent die within one year of diagnosis and the five-year survival rate is six percent.
