NAMPA -- A Nampa woman who admitted killing her mother with a hammer will spend at least 20 years in prison.
Kelly Singh, 41, was sentenced by Judge Juneal Kerrick in a Canyon County courtroom this afternoon.
She was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for the Feb. 29, 2012, attack on her mom, Ruth Collins.
Singh pleaded guilty in October and told the judge what happened that night.
I know that I had gotten into an argument with her and went into the bedroom, while intoxicated and from what I remember I grabbed a hammer and hit her in the head, Singh said.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Singh told police that she had been drinking and that her drinking upset her mother. After trying to wake her mom up, she grabbed a hammer and hit her several times in the head.
Singh must serve at least 20 years in prison before she is eligible for parole.
The judge asked Singh if she wanted to make a statement in court during her sentencing, but she declined.
