GARDEN CITY -- An 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after being hit by a truck Friday night.
The crash happened just before 8 p.m. at the intersection of E. 42nd and Adams Streets in Garden City.
Investigators tell KTVB that the girl was walking with family members when she crossed the street and was hit by a 1983 Dodge truck driven by a 35-year-old Garden City man.
The girl was taken to Saint Alphonsus, where she is listed in critical condition, police said.
The intersection was closed for several hours while police investigated.
Police say the man was on his way to work and do not think alcohol played a role in the accident.
At this point no charges have been filed or arrests made.
Police believe there might have been other motorists who witnessed the accident and encourage anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to contact the Garden City Police Department at 472-2950 or Crime Stoppers at 343-COPS.
