BOISE The newly passed smoking ordinance also means no more smoking in Boise taxis. Tuesday, city leaders tacked on a few more proposals for a new taxi ordinance.

Stakeholders presented the specifics of a proposed law that would change how taxi companies operate. The city wants to create vehicle decals that would tell users whether the taxi service is in or out of service. Debit and credit cards need to be accepted.

If you want to be a taxi driver in the city of Boise, you may need to prove you can read and speak English. City staff also recommends pick-up and drop-off zones that usually occur on Fridays and Saturdays, be extended to all weekdays.

Public comment on the issue will follow in the coming months.
