BOISE, Idaho-- During the 2011 Legislature, Exergy Development Group threatened to pull out of wind power projects in Idaho if lawmakers didn't extend a lucrative sales tax rebate for alternative energy developers.

After the rebate died on the Legislature's final day, however, Exergy now plans to stick around.

James Carkulis, its founder, says the company has contractual obligations that it won't breach.

Carkulis was singing a different tune just two weeks ago.

When Sen. Joe Stegner asked an Exergy lobbyist if it would cancel its projects without the extension, the answer he got was That would be correct.

Stegner says this underscores the need for caution by lawmakers as companies seek breaks from Idaho for their projects.
