BOISE -- The state Board of Education gave Boise State University permission to start construction on the first phase of Bronco Stadium upgrades after postponing a vote on the plan last month.
Trustees voted Friday to allow construction to move forward after university officials worked to alleviate safety concerns over parking and pedestrians at Dona Larsen Park. Phase one of the stadium expansion includes moving the university's oval track nearby to the park.
With the board's approval, school officials will start the first phase of the stadium expansion while a safety use agreement is finalized. The expansion also includes more seats in the north end zone and a new home for football operations, offices, locker rooms, a weight room and other amenities.
The university wants the new football complex ready by 2013.
