BOISE -- Authorities have named the victim in Monday night's fatal shooting in Boise that landed another man behind bars. The evidence in this shooting is coming in very slowly because it appears that the suspect was the only person in the room when the shooting occurred.

According to Ada County Coroner Erwin Sonnenberg, 23-year-old Gary Dean Arlen Jr. died of a fatal gunshot wound to the head late Monday night. Arlen's family says he was shot specifically in the mouth.

The cause of death in the coroner's report was officially labeled a homicide.

Police responded to Arlen's home on North Curtis Road, near Fairview Avenue at 11:44 p.m. Monday night. Here they found Arlen dead from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Police say Gregory Shain, 22, of Meridian, was also on the scene. He was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was arraigned Tuesday afternoon.

In court Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Brian Naugle said the precise circumstances of the shooting are still under investigation but says they know that there was some sort of game that included guns.

The evidence is clear that the victim was killed by a gunshot wound to the head. The evidence is also quite clear the defendant was the person who pulled the trigger, said Naugle.

Naugle also says there's some evidence that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in this shooting.

Shain is being held at the Ada County Jail on a $500,000 bond. If he posts bond, Shain is not to contact the victim's family, use firearms, and he will be required to do random drug and alcohol testing.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3.

Arlen's family tells KTVB that Shain and Arlen have known each other since high school but were more acquaintances than good friends.

The Gary Arlen Jr Memorial Fund has been set up through US Bank to help the family with funeral costs.
