MERIDIAN - Deputies say a man's body was discovered inside the garage area of a burned home on the 5800 block of North Black Cat Road late Thursday night.

Firefighters and law enforcement officers worked to extinguish and investigate the suspicious fire after it was reported around 11:30 p.m.

Firefighters say the home's long driveway forced a water tender to respond because no fire hydrants were available in the area. It's not clear if that complicated the firefighting efforts.

The home is described as a total loss.

Deputies with the Ada County Sheriff's Office tell KTVB the cause of the fire is suspicious, and investigators are treating the home as a crime scene.

They weren't able to launch a thorough investigation until daybreak Friday.

No other victims are thought to be inside the home or garage.

As for the victim's identity, deputies say they've got leads, but can't positively identify him yet.

The cause of the man's death has yet to be determined.

The Ada County coroner says further forensic testing needs to be done before the victim can be positively identified.

The Ada County Sherrif's Office continues to investigate and says that while the fire appears to have been intentionally set, they do not know yet if any crime was committed.

The sherrif's office doesn't believe there is a threat to the public.
