McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- A truck driver spotted a car along Highway 99 Tuesday that police believe had crashed the weekend before. A man was dead inside.

The car had tumbled down an embankment near Trunk Street. The truck driver spotted the wreckage in heavy brush.

Police identified the driver as Richard Smith, 75, of Sherwood. His family had reported him missing and said the last time anyone saw him was Friday.

Investigators said he used a credit card to purchase gas at the Spirit Mountain Casino on Saturday.

The westbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed in both directions in Dundee during Tuesday's investigation.
