BOISE -- 2013 will be a big year for the City of Trees.
On July 7th, the city turns 150 years old.
The mayor's office kicked off the sesquicentennial celebration Thursday at the official Boise 150 headquarters on 10th and Main streets.
As part of the celebration, 37 individuals or organizations will split $98,000 in grant money.
Mayor Dave Bieter says this is a special occasion for all to celebrate Boise's history.
We have so many people that haven't been in Boise very long and even those who have, to understand our history better is just so important, said Bieter. We all so much want to create a sense of place, and there's nothing better to help create a sense of place than awareness and celebration, and really learning about our history.
There are several events planned before the big celebration in July.
