BOISE -- Police officers attempted to calm a suicidal man who was armed with a handgun late Thursday night, but ultimately ended up shooting and killing him.
According to to Boise Police, the shooting happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday night.
That's when four officers responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman who reported that a drunk, suicidal man had access to weapons at a home on the 6100 block of N. Sparkford Way, near Chinden Boulevard and Eagle Road.
Once on scene, officers found the man standing alone in a driveway with a gun.Witnesses say police tried to get the man to put down the gun, but those efforts failed. A Boise police spokesperson says when the man moved aggressively toward the officers with the gun, one officer fired a shot that hit the man in the stomach.
He later died at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
The man's name will be released after his family is notified. No one else was in the home at the time of the incident.
According to BPD policy, the officers who were at the scene during the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. The shooting is being investigated by the Ada CountyCritical Task Force, which includes members from Garden City, Meridian, and Boise Police, as well as Idaho State Police and the Ada County Sheriff's Office.
