BOISE -- A transient who admitted torturing and killing a woman at Boise motel earlier this year will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Fourth District Judge Timothy Hansen sentenced 56-year-old Thomas Lee Herman on Tuesday for the March 5 death of 46-year-old Mamokete Folkes. There is no possibility of parole.
Prosecutors say Herman beat Folkes to death by using a combination of violent blows from his hands and feet. Folkes suffered a lacerated liver and traumatic brain injury during the beating. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
Herman pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder back on Sept. 9. He was originally scheduled to stand trial for murder this week.
At the time of his arrest, Herman was on probation for a December 2012 knife attack on another woman. He served only 20 days in jail for that crime.
Prosecutors say Herman has a long history of violence dating back nearly 40 years in Idaho, Utah and Ohio.
