CALDWELL -- A registered sex offender has been arrested in Canyon County because prosecutors say he is a public health risk.
Roland Rivera, 50, is accused of having sexual contact with adult females while knowing he was HIV-positive and failed to disclose that to his partners. Authorities say one victim has been identified and there may be others.
We have reason to believe that Mr. Rivera's alleged behavior poses a likelihood of substantial harm to unknown individuals, as well as the public's health, said Canyon County prosecutor Bryan Taylor in a prepared statement.
Taylor says anyone who had sexual contact with Rivera should contact a medical professional as soon as possible.
Rivera is charged with the crime of transfer of a bodily fluid which may contain the HIV virus, and could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
Anyone with information about his case is urged to call the Canyon County Sex Offender Task Force at 455-6082.
