BOISE-- A Boise man is charged with causing a lot of damage in Ann Morrison Park early Saturday morning after trying to elude police in a stolen pickup truck.

It all started at 3:26 a.m. Saturday when a Boise Police officer on patrol spotted a blue Chevy pickup near the playground in the park. After running the license plate, police discovered the truck had been reported stolen the previous day.

One man was inside the pickup. He was told to stop the engine and put his hands where officers could see them. The man started to comply, but then re-started the truck and drove away.

The driver, later identified as 36-year-old Everett Peone, fled east through the park. The truck jumped a curb, struck several trees and a large clock tower in the middle of the park, and caused damage to some sport fields.

When Peone reached Americana Boulevard, he drove west across five lanes of traffic, jumped a curb and crashed into a heavily wooded area south of Kathryn Albertson Park. He eventually complied with police commands and stepped out the truck.

Peone was arrested and booked into the Ada County Jail on felony charges of grand theft, eluding police and malicious injury to property.
