IDAHO FALLS -- Union Pacific Railroad is helping the city of Blackfoot find solutions to safety and traffic concerns at railroad crossings.
Bingham County Officials and UP officials met in Blackfoot this past week to discuss solutions.
UP spokesman Dan Harbeke tells KIDK-TV that growth in the rail industry and traffic results in crossings being blocked more often.
He says UP is reviewing its daily operations to try to alleviate some of the blocked crossings.
The company also supports building a railroad underpass or overpass.
Blackfoot Mayor Paul Loomis says the city is looking at the possibility of adding sensors to railroad crossings.
The city submitted an application for a $1 million federal grant to study the idea of building an underpass or over pass.
