PORTLAND -- A list of 'Best Diets' compiled by U.S. News & World Report leaves the popular Paleo Diet in the back of the pack.

The publication looked at 32 diets and ranked them based on ease, nutrition, safety, and effectiveness for weight loss and protection against diabetes and heart disease.

DASH Diet: The diet was developed to fight high blood pressure, but U.S. News & World Report said it looked like an all-star to our panel of experts. It's the fourth year the diet topped the list. It scored the best of them all for nutritional completeness, safety and its ability to prevent or control diabetes.

TLC Diet: Standing for Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes, U.S. News said it s particularly good at promoting cardiovascular health.

Mediterranean Diet: This diet emphasizes fruits and vegetables, olive oil, fish, and other healthy Mediterranean-style fare.

The once trendy South Beach diet ranked 18 and current pop culture darling, the Paleo Diet, tied for dead last with the Dukan Diet, a diet that one expert referred to as idiotic.
