BOISE -- Dozens of kids from across the community got a very special treat Friday.

Busloads of more than 100 kids between the ages of six and 12 got to go on a shopping spree.

Donors contributed more than $4,000 - enough to give each child a $30 gift card.

The children attend after-school programs at community centers across the valley.

Director of Parks and Recreation Doug Holloway said it's a really great experience for the kids, who often come from varied backgrounds.

We watch them carefully, make sure they don't spend it all on candy, but other than that, there's really no rules, said Holloway.

This is the 8th year they've put on the event that is fully supported by private donations.
