BOISE -- Thursday night, local families went to learn more about the Idaho Youth Challenge Academy.

It's a story about second chances for some teenagers who have struggled in school.

The academy is for boys and girls from 16 to 18 years old who have dropped out of school or are in danger of dropping out.

Cindy Pherigo heard about the new program and came to Meridian tonight to try and get her son signed up for it.

He gets to go away and learn the skills, learn life skills, but then he has a mentor for 12 months afterwards. That's going to be amazing for him, said Pherigo.

The academy is expected to open up in Pierce, Idaho in January.
