TWIN FALLS -- The man who plans to re-create Evel Knievel's famous 1974 jump over the Snake River Canyon has ponied up the cash to use the land where the original jump took place.

Texan Big Ed Beckley paid the state $943,000 by electronic fund transfer, according to Idaho Department of Lands spokesperson Emily Callihan.

Beckley won the rights to lease the land during an auction last month. A life-long Evel Knievel fan, Beckley says he's the right person to make stunt happen. He'll make the attempt in September 2014, on the 40th anniversary of Knievel's failed attempt.

But before the jump becomes reality, Beckley still needs to get the proper permits from the City of Twin Falls.

The bid money, plus royaties received for the jump will go to Idaho public schools, Callihan said.
