BOISE -- Irrigation canals are starting to fill up around the Treasure Valley.

The Nampa and Meridian Irrigation District started diverting water into the Ridenbaugh Canal near Barber Park Monday morning.

It will take a few days to fill the canals.

The water superintendent says they're keeping a close eye on water levels because of a lack of snowpack, particularly at lower elevations.

They say they may have to use stored water in Arrow Rock and Anderson Ranch reservoirs earlier than than usual this year.
