MINNEAPOLIS -- Days after completing the sell-off of its Albertsons stores, Supervalu says it plans to cut 1,100 jobs from its nationwide workforce.

The Minnesota-based company says the reductions will come in the form of layoffs and leaving open positions unfilled.

Supervalu completed the sale of Albertsons stores to Boise-based AB Acquisition last Thursday. Supervalu says that leaves the company with more corporate and store support staff than it needs.

As for Albertsons' future plans, the new owners have not gotten into specifics.
