NAMPA-- The City of Nampa is making way for a new downtown development.
Tuesday morning crews began demolishing three vacant buildings.
In their place, the City of Nampa and the Gardner Company are developing a project called Library Square. It will include a new three-story, 60,000 square foot public library, a 300-space parking garage, an office and retail building attached to the garage and a stand-alone retail building.
The ultimate goal of the Urban Renewal District that is funding these projects is revitalization of downtown, said Nampa Mayor Tom Dale. This is the next phase in that; a new public library, and the private retail - restaurant space that's going to come alongside of that - is going to bring more people to the downtown.
Nampa recently opened the Hugh Nichols Public Safety Building in the Library Square area.
Dale says construction on the new buildings should start in April, and be completed in the fall of 2014.
