SUNDAY'SBADWEATHER

Sunday's poor conditions led to problems throughout the valley for drivers.

From slide-offs in Elmore County to whiteout conditions near La Grande, winter weather caused headaches for holiday travelers.

Elmore County dispatchers tell KTVB that they handled numerous slide-offs, due to slick road conditions Sunday afternoon. Owyhee County had at least one slide-off. Dispatchers there say road conditions were pretty bad east of Murphy.

In eastern Oregon, Interstate 84 was shut down for several hours four miles east of La Grande due to heavy snow and poor road conditions. I-84 was also closed at the intersection with Whitney Highway. The interstate has since re-opened.

Also on Sunday, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) reported a number of spots on I-84 in eastern Oregon with packed snow. Chains or traction tires were suggested for these areas. If you're planning to travel on Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon, it is recommended that you check ODOT's Tripcheck site. In Idaho, you can call 511 or go to ITD's site.
