BUHL, Idaho -- A 33-year-old Buhl woman who police say stole an 82-year-old woman's checkbook and spent $2,000 on jewelry, beer and cigarettes has been charged with eight counts of forgery.

The Times-News in a story published Sunday reports that Shon Leslie Briggs is being held in the Twin Falls County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Police say a bank employee alerted authorities, and police obtained surveillance video from several stores where the checks were passed.

Police say the 82-year-old woman told bank employees she went without heart and seizure medications for three weeks because she didn't have the money because Briggs was taking it all.

Briggs is next scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
